The true reasons for the success of the Desert Assassins is this man Rene Brugger. A quiet and unassuming Baja legend Rene started racing with us in 2007 and together with Heidi he has driven to 4 championships in 7sx and 6, now 7200. From Valle Guadalupe where his family still lives Rene grew up a racing fan watching the races outside Ensenada. He earned multiple mid size truck championships before we lucked out to have him join our circus. Rene is the man who makes the magic happen on the #16. There are many family members that help and have helped, it took about 90 of us to race the SCORE International BFGoodrich Tires Baja 1000 but this single man is the biggest reason for our 2017 success. We led or were dang close at San Felipe and the 500 and we were on point at Best in the Desert Vegas to Reno. The 250 was a small miscalculation from a supplier and the other two we my fault that we didn't win. Straight up. We won the Norra Mexican 1000 and although not a big TT race is was a great test for our race vehicles and an amazing warm up to this 1000. But the fact is Rene gave us a flawless truck, after only changing the length of the drive shaft after SF the truck finished both races on the same prep. Watching Rene race his 7200 baby at NORRA was probably more fun than racing myself. We will do an update this week on the Baja 1000 but really all you need to know is this is the guy, the man, the legend that makes it all happen. He is selfless and kind, giving and committed, honestly I have never met a nicer and more "all in" human. I have learned a lot from Rene. From his relationship with his family, his son Richie is a big part of our family as well, and how he treats others. He is a shining example of how to live. The DA owes this man but more importantly we love Rene and his family and his entire extended family he has brought to our program. Too be honest, I wanted to win this race really badly. We put a lot of time and thought into this effort, years worth for real. I wanted win as much as anything to do it for Rene, to show him the respect back for his commitment. We went all in, worked our plan perfectly but in the end we missed by one spot. I'm sorry Rene but I'm also super pumped, once again we have proven we can both run with the fastest drivers and trucks like we did at the 250 and 500 and we can engineer and execute great efforts and plans like at NORRA and this massive effort at the longest and toughest off road race in the world. The Steele/Brugger names won't go in the history books, that will be the Lopez family, congrats to them, but our DA family knows exactly what we accomplished and how we did it. We all know who the leader at the DA is. God Bless to all and thank you from the bottom of my heart Rene, from The whole DA Familia. With respect,Cameron ... See MoreSee Less
